I have never made one of these joints myself, but I can imagine the triumphant feeling the first time you slip the two sides together and they join perfectly!
As he says, the method is probably not worth the effort unless it is going to be a visible joint. The locking miter is indeed a strong version of the miter joint, but there are other easier ways to strengthen a miter.
