There is a lot of information on the web for woodworkers who are just beginning in the craft. However, few people have spent more time and effort compiling quality advice and instruction specifically for beginners than Colin Knecht has. Colin runs WoodworkWeb and the WoodworkWeb YouTube channel.
Colin puts out videos on various woodworking topics, but the Beginners Series is particularly great. Each video in the series is approached with the perspective that the audience knows very little about the subject being discussed. They are very basic and very perfect for someone who truly doesn’t know anything about that particular tool, or technique, etc.
WoodworkWeb currently has 26 videos in the series and he releases a new one about every 3 – 4 weeks. The topics covered include:
- Chisels and their uses
- Using an electric hand plane
- Winding sticks and how to use them
- Jigsaw use and tips
- Woodworking jigs
- Installing and using hinges
- Tips for buying lumber
- Pocket hole joinery
- And many more…
I’ve included the most recent video in the series here to get you started. This one is about operating a circular saw safely. Colin goes over the parts of the saw, types of saw blades, proper maintenance, adjustments to make for great cuts, and more. You can also find an article on WoodworkWeb.com for each of his videos. Here is the one for the beginner video on circular saws.
